“Our priority is to educate socially conscious
individuals who through their profession as
nurses provide quality health care to diverse
populations and are prepared to effect positive
change in health care.”
College of
nursing
The hallmarks of a Villanova Nurse are intellectual
acumen and a commitment to service within a framework
of Catholic and Augustinian values.
The College of Nursing, established in 1953, is nationally
recognized and in 2007 was designated for a second time
as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the
National League for Nursing. The alumni of its bachelor’s,
master’s and doctoral programs provide leadership in
clinical practice, education and research around the globe.
In July 2008, the College of Nursing moved into its new
home. Driscoll Hall—named in honor of the Rev. John M.
Driscoll, O.S.A., 30th president of Villanova—creates an
environment for learning and teaching supported by
state-of-the-art technology.
The College prepares both undergraduates for clinical
experiences in hospitals and home care settings, and
graduate students for advanced practice and role
development in nursing education and health care
administration. Student experiences provide opportunities
for international study and clinical learning.
The College’s more than 6,000 alumni extend its reach
externally and enhance its reputation through excellent
performance. Among these are health care executives,
distinguished faculty, deans, military officers and clinical
experts. Likewise, the College faculty are highly respected
leaders in their fields.
Central to a Villanova Nursing education is its grounding
in the liberal arts and sciences. In combination with the
nursing curriculum, this motivates students to be
productive professionals who demonstrate ethical and
social responsibility for the health needs of others,
especially the marginalized. Its top-ranked graduate
programs and its Continuing Education in Nursing and
Health Care programs—that incorporate distance
learning opportunities—prepare influentials who
contribute to the future direction of health care. The
College of Nursing actively reflects Villanova’s philosophy
and mission of concern for humankind.
